1-8-11 - the gravity of color

Just visited the New Britain Museum of Art and was blown away by an installation by New York artist, Lisa Hoke, entitled “The Gravity of Color.” She covered a huge, 2-story wall with thousands of plastic cups. Many of the cups were clear and she had beautifully coated them with vibrantly colored swaths of paint. Others were new or vintage paper cups in a spectrum of complimentary colors. The assemblage had such dimension and texture. The entire installation created a stunning, swirling, jewel-like effect that was further enhanced by the natural light pouring into the museum on this snowy day. I am a sucker for color and this one really got to me. Cannot stop thinking about it! Does this make you want to create art or collect cups?
