12-28-11 - compositions, colors, ideas 1930

Just visited the Baltimore Museum of Art in my hometown. Fell in love with a grid of colored stencils by Sonia Delaunay from 1930 titled Compositions, Colors, Ideas. I knew very little about this Russian-born, French-trained artist who pioneered the Orphism art movement with her husband from 1910-1920.

Her lively, colorful graphics strike such a balance between strong architectural elements and fluid organic shapes. Exactly what we strive for in our own work. No surprise that many of her timeless motifs have been used in wallpapers and fabrics over the last 100 years.

Our grasscloth & more collection of natural wallcoverings and our hand-printed grasscloth wallpapers are totally earth-friendly and elegant. Designer Lisa Kauffman Tharp wanted to make sure readers of her blog about green design knew all about us. Thanks so much Lisa!
