4-28-15 Rough Trade NYC custom wallpaper

Rough Trade NYC - a record store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

We had the privilege of contributing a custom wallpaper to the Rough Trade store that opened in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in late 2014. Rough Trade, independent purveyors of great music since 1976, based in London and Nottingham, England pushes against the notion that records and music retailing have gone by the wayside. The huge music emporium in Brooklyn creates a complete experience with live shows, food service and an interactive hang out area, the #guardiangreenroom featuring a custom wallpaper printed in our studio. Designed by Mohawk, a London-based branding firm, the unique space hosts interviews with the latest artists and allows users on both sides of the Atlantic to review current music releases, relax, tweet or play ping pong, all while surrounded by a striking custom mural.

Almost done - #guardiangreenroom, a salvaged shipping container music hang-out

The custom wallpaper design, replete with NYC and music iconography, features panels that create a huge mural. We printed the pattern on an eco-friendly PVC-free, smooth, non-woven material which is well-suited for commercial environments, while being sustainable and biodegradable.  The non-woven material has a crisp, clean print quality that works perfectly with these custom graphics.

NYC and music iconography grace the custom wallpaper designed by Mohawk.

After printing the order in our studio, Robertson was on-site in Brooklyn to ensure that the installation went smoothly along with our expert paper-hanger based in NYC.

After printing the mural in-house, we deliver the material and our expert paper hanger gets to work on site.

The mural design comes to life during the installation.

The wallpaper sets the tone for the #guardiangreenroom, an interactive, multi-media music experience.

We believe in the transformative ability of wallpaper and love helping designers make that change in a space. The creative opportunities for custom wallpaper are endless.

Papa Poule wallpaper

The mighty chicken - inspiration for the new restaurant Papa Poule and the wallpaper design

Surface designer Candice Kaye and restauranteur Elisa Marshall of Mamannyc recently contacted us to assist in bringing to life their vision for a custom wallpaper for Elisa’s newest NYC food destination, Papa Poule. The new concept, with partners Michelin starred chef Armand Arnal and Benjamin Sormonte, is a french-inspired rotisserie chicken take-out and delivery in the heart of SoHo.

Thus, it was a natural choice to wallpaper the space in a chicken pattern created by Candice. She provided us with her charming sketch that had an almost vintage inspired quality and we consulted on the final repeat pattern, provided options for various scales and then digitally printed the wallpaper in our studio.

This custom wallpaper design adds just the right old-world vibe to the urban location that seeks to recall the owners’ own Sunday evening dinners spent enjoying marinated chicken with their families.

Creating custom wallpaper is one of our favorite aspects of our studio life, as we love helping designers communicate a mood which can transform and define an interior. Our in-house digital wallpaper printing services offer almost endless opportunities for creativity. Pleasure working with you Candice and Elisa!
